Owning a cat 'cuts stroke risk by a third'

Having a cat around the house could cut your risk of having a heart attack or stroke by almost half. Scientists said owning and stroking a purring feline may reduce stress and anxiety, and so protect against cardiovascular disease. They found even those who no longer owned a cat benefited from these protective effects.

Iditarod

Well, today was the REAL start of the Iditarod up in Alaska.

I can't begin to explain my infatuation with the sport of dog mushing, it's just something that appeals to me on a very... primal level. The challenge of man and beast working together against some of the harshest conditions possible is just something that I feel you just have to respect. To travel 1100 miles, over mountain ranges and frozen rivers at temperatures that can drop to -60 Fahrenheit in hurricane strength winds is something that I just have to try.

To that end, I am trying to find some "local" mushers to train me and show me the ropes. Not that anyone reads this, but if you happen across it on a Google search or something and happen to know someone in the Cincinnati region, help a brutha out and let me know.

Till such a time, I'll live vicariously on www.iditarod.com and continue to dream of competing in the last great race.

OK... just why?

How is it that on my AT&T cell phone, I can just dial the areacode and phone number and the system is "smart" enough to figure out that it's a long distance call... yet on my home phone (powered by AT&T) I have to add the 1?

Seriously.

just annoys me.

Glad that's over with

What a whirlwind tour the past week has been.

We saw some amazing traffic numbers last week with the email campaign behind WagNBrag.com 2.0. Single day traffic records, more than quadrupled the number of pictures uploaded. Some really great stuff.

Also traveled to Knoxville and Dallas in the past 5 days. I know there are people out there who travel a hell of a lot more than I do, but it really wore me out.

I flew into Knoxville on Friday night and spent all weekend prepping for the EF Board meeting in Dallas on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Overall I think it went well. It's hard to gauge as it was my first trip before the board (hopefully of many) and it wasn't as rough as I was led to believe it would be... and I'm not sure that's such a good thing, as now I'll be using this experience as the benchmark for what to expect in the future. I was prepared, I knew my shit and my "company" as much as I can and that helped a ton. In the end, things went well and while I have not received official confirmation, there is no reason not to believe I will be granted additional funding for this quarter. But this quarter is put up or shut up time. We need monumental growth and some serious revenue. (that's my way of saying get your ass over to the site, upload pictures, click on ads and then tell all your friends to do the same)

With the preparation came some bad news, however. My muse, Ms. Staci Martin is not only going to no longer be Ms. Staci Martin but Mrs. Staci Baird (that's not the bad part) but will be leaving Scripps to take a job with some company that's sure to fail. I think they're called LucasArts or something. I don't know much about them, I think they make some silly little sci-fi/fantasy stuff set in a galaxy "far far away." I know, how cliche *eye roll*

So Staci won't be around to be my leaning post any longer. She will be sorely missed as without her help, I couldn't have achieved nearly as much as we accomplished over the last 3 months. God Speed hun, and I'm serious, I want all of those games for my Xbox.

I'm tired

Reports, stats, page views, uniques, grah... I'm tired of it.

We're preparing for a board meeting to request funding for the next quarter and I need to get everything in order, build reports and presentations and strategies and I'm just mentally worn out.

Cancun can't come fast enough
